This is an interesting study. A randomized controlled trial into Mindfulness and structural brain change on the MRI scans in patients with Parkinson’s Disease showed increased gray matter density in patients who completed a 8 week mindfulness based intervention.
Increased gray matter density was found in the right amygdala and bilaterally in the hippocampus, the caudate nucleus, left occipital lobe, left thalamus and bilaterally in the temporo-parietal junction.
These represent some of the neural networks postulated to play an important role in Parkinson’s Disease.
