Music and Dementia

Did you know singing showtunes helps with dementia?

In the USA, a 4 month study of elderly residents of a nursing home compared singing for 50 mins a week to just listening. Those that sang showed more improvement than those who just listened, and interestingly, the improvements were greater amongst those with moderate to severe dementia. The songs were taken from musicals including 'The Wizard of Oz', ‘Oklahoma' and 'The Sound of Music’. Might be time to make up a showtunes playlist!
